The NAR 2013 Profile of Homebuyers and Sellers gives some key insights into what today’s typical seller is thinking when it comes time to move. For example:

59% purchased a newer home than they’d owned previously.

Recent sellers typically sold their homes for 97% of the listing price.

88% of sellers were assisted by a real estate agent when selling their home.

47% reported they reduced the asking price at least once.

36% of sellers offered incentives to attract buyers, most often assistance with home-warranty policies and closing costs.

13% of recent sellers had to delay or stall selling their home because the value of their home was worth less than their mortgage.
